VGT Board welcomes “NCAC” as new member

The United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Interior, the current chair of the Virtual Global Taskforce (VGT), welcomed the National Children’s Advocacy Center (NCAC) as a new member of the VGT. The NCAC was endorsed by the US-Homeland Security Investigations- Child Exploitation Investigations Unit and voted in by members of the VGT.

Major General Dr. Nasser Lakhrerbani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Chair of the VGT said; NCAC demonstrates a great model of responding to victims of child abuse by offering child-victim specific needs and services, affirming that the UAE Ministry of Interior is looking forward to collaborating and exchanging knowledge and skills.

Major General Al Nuaimi stressed the keenness of the United Arab Emirates to provide support the Virtual Global Taskforce (VGT) in achieving its goals in child protection and cooperation in combating crimes that target children globally. Additionally, he emphasized that the VGT will continue to have a dominant role in the combatting of online child sexual abuse in the international arena, referring to the role of the WePROTECT Global Alliance International Advisory Board, where several meetings were attended this year in order to push for VGT concerns.

Major General Al Nuaimi also explained the mechanism of accession of any international police authority or private company to the VGT which he said is subject to strict procedures and criteria which are regularly revised with the aim of assessing the efficiency of the nominated members and the added value they may bring to the fight against online child sexual abuse.

It is worth mentioning that the NCAC provides forensic interviews for child victims, victim advocacy for child victims and involved caregivers, medical evaluations related to child maltreatment,; and all of these services are provided at no charge.

The past decade has seen the team additionally work very effectively in response to sexual exploitation cases with all levels of law enforcement. The NCAC also believes that prevention is essential to ending cycles of abuse and neglect.
